And so it was a joy to sit around the kitchen table of my client Jessie as we planned what the new homemaker, Dotty, would do to help Jessie with some of the household chores. The laundry was one important thing that needed to be done since getting to the machine was down a flight of steps that looked too risky for Jessie to navigate.
Dotty looked out the window and noticed a clothesline in the backyard and she asked Jessie if she used the clothesline. Jessie said that she hadn’t been able to use it for years. Then, Dotty asked if they could use it, particularly to dry the bed sheets.
Jessie got a sparkle in her eyes and enthusiastically said yes, she would love that. Something so simple…hanging the laundry on the clothesline can be a touch back to comforting times. I was so pleased with Dotty for noticing and realizing it wasn’t just about having clean clothes, but it was about the process.
So many times, there is comfort in the little things. We have to be in the moment so we can be aware of what those comforting little things might be.
